The EKM Blink USB converter may work fine with 3rd party RS485 devices. It was not designed to only work with EKM products. We have many customers that use these for various other applications. That being said, we cannot guarantee that it will work, as we have not tested it well in any other application.
The EKM Blink uses an FTDI chip. If your computer does not automatically have or download the necessary USB drivers, download the USB drivers from FTDI found here: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm
